RYTON POOLS COUNTRY PARK

There are 4 Permanent Orienteering Courses available that are all shown on one map:  The reverse page of the map provides full details on all the courses and description of all the control points.

White / Easy 1.2km with 8 controls.

Yellow / Intermediate 2.2km with 10 controls.  NB Point No.5 (Control No.11) is missing at present (Oct 2020) just miss it out.

Orange / Advanced 3.2km with 10 controls.

Score Course / Word Hunt with 15 controls to find which are not on the White / Easy Course. 

NB Controls No.3 and No.11 have temporary posts with a flat board on a post for now (Nov 2022).  Also the post for No.8 has been attached to a fence, but is still useable.

None of the Control Posts have a red and white triangle yet.  The Number and Code Letter are just engraved near the top of each post.

Car Parking is £3 per car for 2 hours peak, less per car off-peak (all year after 4 pm and 1st Nov to 28th Feb inclusive).  No need to book.

There are Ticket Machines in various places.

Other Things to do in the Area

There is a Cafe open most of the time, with toilets available.

There is a miniature Railway operating from 1 pm to 4 pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

There are extensive Walks, some with Audio Trails.There are Two Play Areas for younger and older children.

Lakes for Bird watching. Geocaching

Cycle Hire.  Dogs are welcome on or off the lead.

MapRun virtual orienteering courses use the permanent orienteering course posts which are round wooden stakes with the numbere etched into the top at Ryton rather than traditional orienteering posts
