Plymouth Central Park

Plymouth Central Park Permanent Orienteering Course

The recently updated (March 2022) permanent orienteering course has been set up as a partnership arrangement between Plymouth City Council, the Argyle Community Trust and Devon Orienteering Club to give members of the public an opportunity to try out the sport in Plymouth’s Central Park. It is suitable for people of all ages and abilities and available for individuals, families and groups, including those in schools, colleges and other settings.

The Permanent Course also provides an opportunity for people who are familiar with the sport to train, coach others and progress.

A new map has been produced by the club (John Pearce). New plaques have been fitted and new posts installed where necessary.

Participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety whilst using the course. Please see the POC guidance notes on this website, which include a range of safety points.

The Start is adjacent to the Central Park Community Sports Hub at PL2 3DG

For details about orienteering in Devon, including orienteering events and how to make the best use of Permanent Orienteering Courses see: http://www.devonorienteering.co.uk Note that you can enter up to three club events before it is necessary to be a member.

Other Things to do in the Area

Central Park is the largest park in Plymouth. It was originally created in 1928 as a park devoted to the improvement of the health of city residents. Wide boulevards go through the park's open meadows and woodlands, up and down hills with fantastic views over the city towards Plymouth Sound and Cornwall.

Enjoy a cuppa at the new grass roofed cafe - The Meadow Cafe; take the kids to the city's largest play area and Skate Park, rent the Community Sports Hub and gardens for events or activities; or book to play tennis on the new courts.  New seating, public art and spaces for nature make this park a grand day out for all ages!
