Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park

Kinnoull Hill is one of our most popular maps. It is a mix of deciduous and coniferous woodland with an intricate path network. The southern edge of the map is a line of steep crags; the area slopes downhill to the west and north, with pockets of interesting contour detail. Wonderful views over Perth from the top of the hill!

Due to the density of the path network, it is difficult to offer a challenging TD5 course so the controls on the technical courses vary from orange to light green. If you use the All Controls map you may be able to design your own challenging course.

We are offering you 6 choices of maps.

Short Easy is aimed at beginners and uses paths. It is 2km long and has 8 controls to find.

Long Easy is also aimed at beginners and stays on paths but is 2.2km long and has 11 controls to find.

Short Technical takes you off paths and into the forest to find the controls, so will begin to challenge your navigation. 2.5km long, 9 controls.

Long Technical 1 challenges your navigation over a longer course. 3.6km, 12 controls

Long Technical 2 is our longest course and is 4.6km,12 controls.

All Controls allows you to make up your own courses and can be used with the iOrienteering app to scan the QR codes on the posts. Instructions on how to use this app will be downloaded along with this map.

Users are reminded that the downloaded maps are for personal use only and should not be photocopied or used for commercial gain.

If you require multiple copies of the map please contact Tayside Orienteers at secretary@taysideorienteers.org.uk.

Other Things to do in the Area

There are no toilets on Kinnoull Hill, however, there are plenty of places to eat, and public toilets, in Perth.

Kinnoull is a real jewel in Perth's crown. Trails wander through a mature woodland of beech and pine to magnificent views over the River Tay. There's an arboretum – a tree collection –  where you can check out trees you might like to grow in your own garden plus a sculpture trail for you to follow. Scone Palace is just along the road from Kinnoull and has 100 acres of beautiful grounds and gardens to explore plus a cafe and shop. Scone Palace Website
