Greno Woods

Greno Woods is an ancient woodland, rich in wildlife and full of historic interest. The woods are criss-crossed by a network of footpaths and bridleways. Revel in woodland wildflowers including bluebells, honeysuckle and common cow-wheat during spring, enjoy the ripe blackberries and bilberries in summer or find a profusion of fungi in winter. Birdwatchers will be kept busy through all seasons!

There are 3 different courses - short (v easy), medium (easy) and long (medium). There is also an instruction and answer sheet. All can be downloaded for free.

Other Things to do in the Area

The woods are criss-crossed by a network of footpaths and bridleways, and offer many opportunities for walks both long and short. If you prefer to enjoy the outdoors at a faster pace, cyclists can also follow the bridleways, or pass through the reserve on the Trans Pennine Trail which runs through the woods here, whilst adrenaline seekers are invited to try our 3 downhill mountain bike trails, which include the famous Steel City run. The woods also offer excellent horse-riding opportunities including a 3km bridleway loop (which links with bridleways in adjacent Wheata and Wharncliffe Woods).
